Stainless Steel 3-Ring Combination Bit - 6" Shank with Sweet Iron Forward Tilt Ported Barrel (MB 36) Copper Inlay Mouth.. This mouthpiece is made of polished Sweet Iron which naturally oxidizes. How it works: the 3-ring combination bit uses five different pressure points to disperse rein pressure. The noseband and chin strap are connected through the purchase; when the reins are engaged, the horse first feels the nose, chin and poll pressure before he feels the mouthpiece. The mouthpiece can slide 1" before reaching the stop, where it will engage. The overall effect is to give the horse several opportunities to respond to the rider’s rein signals, plus disperse the rein pressure over multiple pressure points rather than just the tongue or bars. Select the rein position most suitable for your hands. About the mouthpiece: the 36 mouthpiece is a Myler alternative to the traditional mullen mouthpiece. Like the traditional mullen the 36 is also a solid curved bar that sits across the bars of the horse’s mouth, but it has a wide low port that allows the tongue to pass under the bit comfortably. The port is ¼" high, just enough to allow the tongue to elevate and swallow, but not high enough for palate pressure. Because the port is low, the 36 doesn’t offer as much tongue relief as other Level Two-Tree mouthpieces with slightly higher ports because the tongue is still somewhat restricted. The 36 mouthpiece is identical to the 06, except the 36 port is tilted forward at a 45º angle. As a result, the 36 offers more tongue relief than the 06, but when the reins are engaged, the tilted port will apply more tongue pressure than the 06. The curved mouthpiece wraps the horse’s mouth, allowing more space for the tongue under the bit. When the reins are engaged, the 36 applies pressure primarily to the bars and lip. This mouthpiece also has Independent Side Movement . This mouthpiece is a step up in tongue relief from Level Two.
